Excellent Oral Hygiene

At Suncoast Dental, we believe the prevention of oral problems is just as, if not, more important than oral treatments. Our qualified team of dentists and dental hygienists operate from our Maroochydore clinic, and are passionate in promoting healthy oral hygiene habits for patients of all ages. So, whether you need tips and advice as a new parent, or you’re sick of receiving fillings and want to avoid tooth loss in your later years, we’re the team to visit. With the correct care and maintenance, your teeth can stay strong and healthy for years to come.

The general rule to follow is to brush your teeth at least twice a day for at least two minutes each time. Make sure to use a fluoride toothpaste, brush in a circular motion and clean all chewing surfaces of the teeth, including the outside, inside and your tongue. Flossing once a day will provide a more in-depth clean, ensuring any food or plaque stuck in between your teeth is removed.

Fully Qualified Dental Hygienists

A dental hygienist is a highly trained oral professional who focuses on prevention treatments for your teeth. Not only do our dental hygienists assist our dentists during procedures and treatments, taking impressions and x-rays, but they are also qualified to perform scaling, polishing and teeth whitening treatments. If you want to avoid oral conditions such as gum disease or maintain a high level of oral hygiene, our dental
hygienists will be able to assist. We’re able to educate patients on the importance of plaque control, nutrition and offer professional tips on how to prevent dental diseases.

At Suncoastdental, we are lucky to have two friendly dental hygienists – Sarah Myers and Lizzy Stenhouse. Both Sarah and Lizzy are qualified through a Bachelor of Oral Health degree, and together they share a passion in helping patients develop excellent hygiene habits and delivering positive dental experiences. Woman With Bleeding Gums — Suncoast Dental In Maroochydore, QLD

What Is Gum Disease?

Gum disease is a common oral condition caused by bacteria in plaque buildup. This can cause your gums to become inflamed, which can make them easily bleed during tooth brushing. Initial symptoms of gum disease also include persistent bad breath, receding gums, and loose or shifting teeth. When left untreated overtime, gum disease can cause the inner layer of the gum and bone to pull away from the tooth, resulting in eventual tooth loss. Poor oral hygiene habits, genetics, as well as smoking habits are some of the most common causes for gum disease.

Scale & Polish

To reduce the risk of gum disease, one of our dental hygienists can clean your teeth professionally, otherwise known as a scale and polish. Aimed at removing stubborn plaque and tartar, we make sure to use the latest, state-of-the-art equipment for a deep clean between the gaps of your teeth. From there, we polish the surface of your teeth by using a slightly gritty paste. Doing so can remove stains, have your teeth look brighter and prevent further plaque buildup. For healthier, stronger teeth, organise a scale and polish with one of our dental hygienists today!
