Eat, Speak & Smile
To begin the denture process, your dentist will first need to take an x-ray scan and thoroughly examine your jawbone and any existing natural teeth. It’s vital that any underlying oral conditions are dealt with at this stage to prevent further complications down the track. This includes any fillings or dental restoration work. From there, we will create a mould of your teeth which is then sent to one of our local laboratories, where technicians will fabricate your custom denture.
From there, the denture is sent back to us and we will hold a trial fitting to ensure maximum comfort. More often than not, this process will highlight some issues with the denture, and result in some changes that need to be made, whether it be fit or the appearance of the artificial teeth. Denture Care & Maintenance
Once you are happy with your dentures, we can schedule a time for the final fitting. Each patient is different, but it generally takes around two weeks for you to adjust to your dentures. During this time, we recommend patients to avoid eating hard-to-chew foods such as steak, and schedule follow up appointments if you experience any discomfort. To ensure the longevity of your dentures, it’s vital that you treat them just like your natural teeth, brushing them daily and soaking them overnight in a denture cleaning tablet to avoid plaque buildup. Ideally suited for patients who have only lost one or a few natural teeth, dental implants require a surgical process that replaces the natural tooth root with an artificial one.
